WHAT IS THE E4D PLANMECA?
The E4D Planmeca is an intraoral scanner that can be used to take digital impressions and images of your teeth. The technology allows us to get a closer look at your smile on the computer screen. With these images, we can create restorations specific to your needs as well as help in creating treatment plans that are ideal for your oral health. Along with using this technology for our own treatment planning, it allows our patients to get a clear view of their teeth while simply looking at a screen.
WHY WOULD THE E4D PLANMECA BE NEEDED?
There are a few reasons why the E4D Planmeca may be needed. When creating restorations, like crowns and bridges, the E4D Planmeca allows us to get a clear view of the teeth so that the restoration is made specifically for the area it is needed. For treatment planning, the E4D Planmeca allows us to see the inside of your mouth after an exam has been done. This gives us the chance to treatment plan even when you’re away from the office.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE E4D PLANMECA?
The technology behind the E4D Planmeca is incredibly safe. The scanner simply takes images inside the mouth to create a comprehensive view on the computer screen. Most patients can and will benefit from E4D Planmeca scanning. In fact, it’s especially beneficial to our orthodontic patients who are coming in for treatment.
WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED DURING USE OF THE E4D PLANMECA?
The first step is to have you sit comfortably in one of our dental chairs. We then take a small handheld device and use it to scan inside the mouth. This device is waved over each area as well as over the gums. As the scan is being done, images will appear on our screen to give us a clear view of your smile. The scan takes minutes and the benefits of having it done are practically limitless. You can and should have a E4D Planmeca scan done prior to treatment planning and when impressions are needed.
